Dr. Neda Yaghoobian, Ph.D. — March 2019
Neda Yaghoobian, an assistant professor at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, has a keen interest in thermo-fluid dynamics. Through her research, she is examining the relationship between the ground and the atmosphere to better understand airflow and its effects on “where we live and what we experience.”
Neda uses the RCC’s HPC resources to run numerous simulations that focus on turbulent airflow. By inputting wind speeds, direction, air temperature and several other factors, she can create simulations that mimic real-life airflow in the complex geometries of urban areas or forests. These simulations provide important insight about airflow patterns that occur in between buildings or around trees.
These findings can help improve the quality of neighborhoods and ecosystems. Simulations such as these provide important data for people who create policies in urban areas and decide where buildings should be placed. Analytics gathered through Neda’s research can provide communities with advantageous suggestions, such as the implementation of solar panels or appropriate ways to disperse pollution.
